The JACKRABBIT SKI PROGRAM is a 10-week program that teaches cross-country skiing to kids. The program usually starts on the first Saturday of January, and is based at the ski chalet on Balmer’s Bay Road. Lessons are held Saturday afternoons starting at 1:30, and last 1 to 2 hours depending on age and skill level. Hot drinks are served in the chalet after the lesson. The program is for kids up to age 15, with a special “Bunnyrabbit” program for the 4 to 5 year olds (accompanied by a parent). Lessons follow the nationally recognized Cross Country Canada program, and are taught by skiers trained in coaching children. The registration fee is $50 per child for the season. If your child needs equipment, consider renting from the Jackrabbit collection of used equipment for a modest fee. Please contact: Carol White for registration at 584-4629 Wednesday Afternoon Tours Each Wednesday during the ski season, adults ski on different trails in the area. Usually skiers meet at 1pm at the trailhead. Plans are announced in the North Renfrew Times. Click here for the new 2012 schedule. Tours are lead by a team of experienced skiers who met in December to plan the season. Racing Program for Teens High school aged skiers can train and participate in a variety of out of town races. Adult Instruction The Club is again offering lessons in the classic (diagonal stride) technique. These lessons are meant for beginner adults with little or no experience, but more advanced skiers are welcome as well. The lessons will be held over three sessions with Phil Davis as instructor. The first session will concentrate on the basics of the classic technique, the second on getting up and down hills and around corners, and the third on putting it all together. These will be held Sunday afternoons on the trails near the club chalet. Exact dates will depend on weather and snow conditions but are tentatively scheduled for January 8, 15 and 22, 2012. If you're interested, sign up on the club registration form and Phil will get back to you with the details. The lessons are free to new Club members and $20 otherwise. Beginner lessons in the ski skate technique will be offered in late January if there is sufficient interest.
